Pictures of hands - JUST HANDS not doing anything in particular - might well be the section of this book that most appropriately fits the theme, Photographs of Hands. After all, the cover image as well as the "second cover" on page one both feature pictures of hands from this section.

A third image, which I originally wanted to use for the cover when I first started to create this book in early 2008, also came from this section. See if you can guess which it is.

In this section, you will find images of hands that include, for example, hands at rest, or model hands reading books and magazines as they take a break from modelling. Just from looking at the hands of this model, you can tell that she is beautiful:

This section has 16 pictures of hands spread over 16 pages, plus the page one image making 17 just hands images altogether.

The page one image was actually a last-minuted addition. I had taken the image at Thaipusam 2009, in early February this year. This was after I had earlier completed and "published" the e-book version of Photographs of Hands. When I ordered my printed copy from blurb.com, however. I realised that my original Page 1 image would be going to the cover.

So rather than repeat it on page one, and again repeat it on page 77, I decided to slot in a new image. I thought this is quite appropriate for the "second cover" as it has an inviting feel:

Just Hands is also the final section of this book, Photographs of Hands. It closes with this image of an old man who had been enjoying a Chinese wayang, or street opera.
